Portramax 400

This new ‘look’ combines two of my favourite LUTs I’ve created to date called Mara & Daisy. I had a hunch that together these two LUTs would do something special, and I wasn’t disappointed...

In July 2026 Ruth had an Airbnb shoot on the River Bann, and I tagged along with the kids and my LUMIX L10 loaded with these two LUTs. After a bit of experimentation, this new LUMIX ‘look’ was born. Check out some straight out of camera JPEGs captured with my Portramax 400 LUMIX ‘look’ below…

I named this ‘look’ Portramax 400 as although not based on any one film stock, to me it’s reminiscent of both Kodak Portra 400 and Ultramax 400, and so I squashed those names together to invent my own imaginary film… Portramax 400.

As stated already, the magic of this ‘look’ comes from the perfect combination of two of my favourite LUTs, ‘Mara’ at LUT Opacity 60% and ‘Daisy’ at LUT Opacity 40% which can be downloaded below, or directly from the LUMIX Lab App…

When designing this ‘look’, I decided to feed these two LUTs a strong base Photo Style of Vivid and then added a bit of control via the Highlights, Shadows and Saturation settings. A few final tweaks to the ‘look’ were to add a little Sharpness, Grain and a slight push of A:4 to Auto White Balance setting for flexibility.

When shooting with Portramax 400 for myself, I set my i.Dynamic Range setting to AUTO to let the camera decide, which it usually does quite reliably. Depending on how much punch you want your JPEGs to have, you can set your i.Dynamic Range to whatever you think works best. If you like it really punchy you can simply turn the i.Dynamic Range setting OFF completely.

Portramax 400 is a great all-round, film-like ‘look’ for any scenario you point your camera at. It has now become my go-to ‘look’ for all of the JPEGs I shoot of my family and has completely made shooting RAW images redundant. I’d love to hear what you think of this new LUMIX ‘look’ if you try it for yourself, so reach out and let me know your thoughts.

Check out all of the settings you’ll need to recreate this ‘look’ for your own LUMIX JPEGs below…
