Kodapop 500S

Introducing my newest ‘look’ - based on my oldest LUT. This is Kodapop 500S, a ‘look’ I’ve created for LUMIX cameras that is vivid, punchy, warm, saturated, bold, sharp and simply delightful. It was super fun to create and even more fun to shoot with. Read more and check out some example JPEGs below…

So far I’ve only used Summer for one, maybe two ‘looks’. As it was the first LUT I ever created, I wanted to honour it with it’s own LUMIX ‘look’ and show how capable this LUT is by itself and a few in-camera tweaks.

Something I’ve also been testing and playing with recently inside my LUMIX cameras is the relationship between the Contrast, Shadows, Highlights & i.Dynamic Range settings. The starting point for this new ‘look’ called Kodapop 500S was my LUT Summer tamed to LUT Opacity 70%, combined with a Contrast setting turned all the way up to +5, and the Highlights & Shadows settings pulled all the way back. After a bit of testing, I liked the result and so I kept going.

With the LUT pulled back ever so slightly, I wanted to push the Saturation just a touch so I’ve set it to +1 for this ‘look’. My Summer LUT was designed to provide a general Kodak feeling, warm, punchy with bright colours etc. With the settings I had chosen so far, the ‘look’ I felt was reminiscent of one of Kodak’s cheaper film stocks like Ultramax or Color Plus.

I wanted to push this further and so decided to set my Grain for Kodapop 500S to STD. and also turn up my Sharpness all the way to 0. To finish off this bold, vivid, crunchy ‘look’, I decided to leave the White Balance at Auto with an amber push of 2 just to heat it up ever so slightly.

And there it was, Kodapop 500S came to life. It’s been a really fun ‘look’ to shoot JPEGs with and one I used a lot this summmer (funnily enough) to capture images of my everyday life. It’s also a great ‘look’ for making your JPEGs look like they were shot on a bright summery day, even if they weren’t. My LUT Summer is doing most of the heavy lifting with this one but combined with these other in-camera settings, it make something really special.

I think Kodapop 500S works great for just about anything, as long as you don’t mind bold, bright, vibrant colours in your JPEGs. If you give it a go for yourself, get in touch. As always I’d love to see your results and hear your feedback! Enjoy…
