Ektamax Éire 100

I recently found out my LUT ‘Earth’ has become the second most downloaded photography LUT on the LUMIX Lab App. Although a load of LUMIX users have downloaded and enjoy shooting with this LUT, I feel like since I put it out (about six months ago) I haven’t given it enough attention myself… so I thought I would design a ‘look’ solely based on Earth. After a few weeks of testing, this was the result…

I initially designed my Earth LUT after being inspired by the colours and cool tones of Kodak Ektar 100, but for this new ‘look’ I wanted to push it in a slightly new direction to see what my LUT Earth is truly capable of. The idea was to counter balance the cool LUT with a warmer White Balance, add some Contrast and Saturation and see what happened.

The first setting I nailed down was the Photo Style which I set to Standard for a solid/neutral base and after adding my LUT Earth, I decided to pull back the LUT Opacity 60%. Download Earth LUT using the button below…

The White Balance setting I landed on for this new ‘look’ was AWB for flexibility with a push to the warm side of A:5 G:1. I turned the Saturation up to +2.5 to really make the colours of the JPEGs captured with the ‘look’ pop!

Something I worked hard on was getting a pleasing Contrast in the mids. To do this I turned the Contrast slider up to +4 and then balanced that with an i.Dynamic Range setting of STD. which protects the highlights in your JPEGs from blowing and allows us to overexpose with this look a little to get the best results.

Finally I added a touch of Grain with the setting at LOW and a bit of Sharpness which is set to -3 to finish it all off. The result is a ‘look’ that is sort of a cross between Kodak’s Ektar and Ultramax so I named it Ektamax…

My wife Ruth and I loaded this new ‘look’ into our S9s and jumped on the train to Dublin for the day to test it out. We were really really pleased with the results and found this new ‘look’ Ektamax Éire 100 will work brilliantly in a whole number of scenarios.

Ektamax Éire 100 is a ‘look’ that is bright, warm, saturated but with a lovely overall pastel Kodak palette. It will work beautifully in a wide range of situations, portraits, street, indoor, family, still life etc. but is perfect I think for anything with bold bright colours. I’m super happy with this one and can’t wait to see what the LUMIX community can capture with it!
