Recently I’ve changed how my LUTs are downloaded from my website. I’ve decided to chuck them all in one big folder so anyone interested in downloading, can have them all! The way it used to be though was individual buttons for individual LUTs. While I was making the change to one big .zip folder, I noticed I could view how many times each LUT button had been pressed and the results are in… my three most downloaded LUTs from my website to date are Mara, Ontario & Bonboa!
Seeing which of my LUTs were the most downloaded got me excited. For a number of reasons really, one being that these three are three of my own personal favourites. When colouring my videos, my workflow is always… shoot V-Log, convert to Rec. 709 and then add a bunch of my own LUTs at different opacities until it looks good.
Mara, Ontario & Bonboa are three LUTs that I often find myself combining to colour my videos - and this sparked an idea.
Why not take these three star LUTs, and combine them into something new… and this was how my new LUT Orion was born. (Get it, three stars… Orion’s Belt?) Check out some example JPEGs shot with Orion below!
Orion takes the best bits of Mara, Ontario and Bonboa (combined at 33.3% each) and captures images that are incredibly reminiscent of Kodak film. This LUT captures deep reds, controlled greens, pale teals and has an overall Autumnal warmth in the shadows which I think makes for a very pleasing image overall.
This new LUT came about as a bit of an experiment… but maybe, just maybe it delivers more than the sum of its parts. If you’re like me and you sometimes struggle to choose between LUTs, then maybe this is your answer. It’s versatile like Mara, punchy like Ontario, and warm like Bonboa. Download it and all my other LUTs by using the button below…
Enjoying my LUTs? Why not drop a little something in the tip jar below to say thanks…
