Neocross R100
I feel like most people who know me, know I’m obsessed with colour. What a lot of people may not know is how much I am obsessed with black and white, especially in photography.
Over the last few years, one of my side-quests has been constantly developing the best black and white look for my own photography. Well I’ve landed on a new one and I’m excited to share the LUMIX ‘look’ which I’ve been shooting with constantly since. Introducing Neocross R100… it’s deep, sharp, flexible and I think has a really beautiful tone.
Check out more details and some examples (shot with the LUMIX L10) below…
This new LUMIX ‘look’ came about as I was testing my newest black and white LUT Orlock - which you’ll need and can download using the button below. When designing Orlock I studied a multitude of scans of different black and white film stocks, analysing them to see what I liked and what I didn’t. Neocross R100 was born out of the testing phase of Orlock as I changed different in-camera settings for using with this LUT.
To create this ‘look’ I combined Orlock at LUT Opacity 80%, with a base Photo Style of L.Monochrome D (my favourite black and white Photo Style of them all). I raised Contrast, softened the Highlights and deepened the Shadows to give it extra depth, added LOW Grain and a good bit of Sharpness.
A setting that I think makes this LUMIX ‘look’ work so well is having the i.Dynamic Range set to Auto. This increases the flexibility of the ‘look’ to make it adaptable in a whole range of different scenarios. You can shoot away with it, over-exposing, under-exposing, exposing correctly and the camera will adapt the ‘look’ to best suit the scene.
While testing Orlock, the LUT used for this ‘look’, something I spent a long time doing was playing with the Filter Effects. On LUMIX cameras you can choose between Yellow, Orange, Red, Green. I eventually choose to add a Red filter to this ‘look’ as one of my favourite black and white film stocks has this reduced red sensitivity too. This setting isn’t a must but it just adds that extra bit of flavour.
Neocross R100 has a permanent spot now on all my LUMIX cameras and I can see myself shooting with it for a long time. For all you black and white lovers out there, why not download Orlock and plug in all the other settings below to shoot with this ‘look’ for yourself…
