Oxygen Mono

I’ve designed a lot of recipes over the last four or so years, but one recipe I felt I was really lacking was a great all-round everyday black & white recipe…

At the time of writing this it’s early Jan 2026 and over the past month I’ve been shooting JPEGs ONLY with a brand new recipe I’ve called ‘Oxygen Mono’. The aim for this recipe was to create a super flexible recipe that works in pretty much every scenario you throw at it - indoor, outdoor, portraits, night, morning, flash etc. See some examples below…

I chose to base this recipe on the Film Simulation of Monochrome but with a Yellow filter. This Film Simulation has a really natural soft contrast that I think works well in lots of scenarios. I chose a Dynamic Range setting of Auto which means your Fujifilm camera will chose between DR100 & DR200 depending on the scene. I did a lot of tests with this and it actually works surprisingly well. Feel free to change this off Auto and keep your DR at 100/200 depending on the look you prefer.

For ‘Oxygen Mono’ I set both Color Chrome Effects to Strong to give the look a bit of contrast in the areas that need it like the sky or anything with punchy colours. I found that Monochrome +Y combined with the DR Auto setting always protects Highlights & Shadows and then Color Chrome Effects both set to Strong provides good depth of contrast in the mid tones.

As this is a recipe designed for every day use, I have set the Clarity at 0 for ultimate ease of use. No one likes to wait while their camera processes and image (am I right?) Finally it has a Large/Strong Grain and a slight warm push in the Monochromatic Color setting that I think really ties the whole look together.

Check out all of the settings needed for this recipe below…
