Kodacolor 200

If you missed it, a couple of months ago Eastman Kodak announced the release of Kodacolor 200. Film lovers have speculated online that this ‘new’ stock is actually just repackaged ColorPlus 200 that Kodak Alaris was already distributing, maybe if anything with a slight base layer tweak?

Anyway, no matter what you call it (Kodacolor 200 or ColorPlus 200) I absolutely love the look of this film. It’s punchy, vibrant, warm and just an all-round great stock for everyday use - so I just had to have a go designing a LUMIX ‘look’ inspired by it!

See some results below…

The starting point when designing this new LUMIX look inspired was the very first LUT I ever made called ‘Summer’. I found that setting ‘Summer’ at LUT Opacity 50% with one of my newer LUTs ‘Daisy’ on top at LUT Opacity 60% (50% just wasn’t enough) gave me a really good base. ‘Daisy’ creates a cooler pastel tone, especially in the highlights and so I warmed up the White Balance to compensate and something special started to happen.

Kodacolor/ColorPlus I would say, has average exposure latitude so I’ve set my i.Dynamic Range to LOW. It’s personal taste but from the scans I studied, the film grain looked a little stronger than LUMIX’s LOW setting but not as strong as STD. I personally love a grainy image so I’ve settled on STD for this one. As always, feel free to change this to suit your taste!

Although a daylight balanced film stock, I love shooting with this LUMIX look with my White Balance on Auto with the warm A:7 push. You can shoot with Daylight if you really want to but swapping over to AWB with the same push just makes the LUMIX look so much more versatile in different scenarios.

The final touch for this look was to turn my Saturation down to -0.5 just to control the colour from the Vivid Photo Style, LUTs and White Balance shift. It seems like such a small setting but this little tweak makes all the difference…

Check out all the settings you’ll need for this look below…
