LomoChrome Color ‘92
A couple of years ago Lomography released LomoChrome Color ’92 and being born in 1992 myself, I was instantly intrigued. On their website, Lomography describe Color ‘92’s unique emulsion as having a “burst of retro charm and classic analogue character” so I bought a few rolls for myself to test.
I love the look of this film so much that this year I designed a LUT inspired by LomoChrome Color ’92 for using inside my LUMIX camera and aptly named it ‘1992’. Making the ‘1992’ LUT was only the first step though. I wanted to really drill down and nail the look of this film for shooting JPEGs with my LUMIX camera and so I’ve made a Color ’92 LUMIX Look inspired by this film with all the settings needed to mimic it. Check out some examples below…
Color ’92, like all film, can look different depending on the camera, the light, the scanning, developing etc. but after studying like 1000s of scans online (including my own) I’ve basically boiled this look down to these three things… Blue shadows, pinky highlights and chunky grain.
I designed the ‘1992’ LUT with a Vivid base but for this look I’ve decided to change the Photo Style to Standard for more precise control. The Contrast is set to +4 while the Shadows are set to -4 with an i.Dynamic Range setting of LOW. Color ’92 doesn’t have the best exposure latitude so a common trait is that the shadows get buried.
Both the Sharpness and Noise Reduction are set to -5 and the Grain is set to HIGH and obviously I have my ‘1992’ LUT applied but I’ve set the LUT Opacity to 90% instead of the full 100%. If this look is still too strong for you feel free to turn the LUT Opacity down even more…
The final setting I landed on was the White Balance. My ‘1992’ is pretty cold and so I chose to set the WB for this look to Cloudy with a A:3 M:3 push and that just nailed the slightly warmer tone that can be found in the mids of this film stock.
