Ilford Delta 3200

Ilford Delta 3200 debuted in the 90s and despite the 3200 on the box, it’s actually rated at 1000 although designed to be shot with a higher ISO because of it’s extremely wide latitude. Delta 3200 has very deep shadows but softer highlights and it is extremely grainy due to the fact it is designed for very low light situations.

I’ve actually never shot with this film before but I’ve recently been studying like hundreds of scans from other photographers and for me looking at the characteristics of this film, I knew quite quickly which LUT to base it on. My most recent black and white LUT ‘Ash’ has a very similar tone to Delta 3200 but just needed a few in-camera setting tweaks to recreate this stock...

The Photo Style took a bit longer to decide on. I tested out I think every black and white Photo Style available and eventually landed on L.Monochrome as it has the right shadow depth but still a natural graduation throughout. Check out some examples of this look below…

I’ve added +1 in the Contrast setting and turned the Shadows to -5 to get them really nice and deep and just like in my HP5 look, I’ve set the Color Tone to -0.5 which introduces a tiny bit of warmth into the images (another thing I noticed when studying scans of Delta 3200). I’ve set the Sharpness at -4, the iDynamic Range is set to STD. and for this one I’ve turned my Grain setting all the way up to HIGH match the look of the grain from this 35mm film.

Check out all the settings you’ll need for this look below…
