What V-Log Conversion LUTs To Use?

S5IIX & S9

It’s no secret that I love LUMIX cameras and shooting V-Log! Back in 2023 when I bought my first LUMIX camera (S5IIX), I was instantly impressed with the colours from it and with how versatile V-Log footage was. When working with the V-Log footage from my S5IIX and later my S9, I found some conversion LUTs from Gamut.io which looked nice, so I bought those and never turned back. Luckily as those two cameras share the same sensor, I could use the same conversion LUTs without any issue.

Check out these BaseLUTs from Gamut.io here - https://gamut.io/product/baseluts-for-panasonic-s5ii-s5iix-and-s9/

Over the last number of years I’ve used these LUTs on pretty much every single video project I have worked on. I love them! The colours that you can squeeze out by using the BaseLUTs from Gamut.io to convert your V-Log footage are to me a lot nicer than using the conversion LUT provided by Panasonic.

S1II

Fast forward to 2025 when LUMIX announced the S1II and I was lucky enough to get my hands on it. I went out, shot a bunch of V-Log footage and tried converting it to Rec709 with the BaseLUTs I already owned from Gamut.io for those other cameras thinking “the colours from this sensor can’t be much different”…

Turns out, they are! My V-Log footage from the S1II converted with the S5IIX & S9 BaseLUTs looked, well… wrong.

Now a few months on, the guys at Gamut.io have just dropped some new BaseLUTs addressing this issue. I bought them myself, briefly tried them out and (surprise surprise) I really like them. Here are some quick comparisons…

01 // Just the straight V-Log image from the S1II

02 // V-Log image converted with Panasonic's own conversion LUT

03 // V-Log image converted with the first of Gamut's new BaseLUTs

04 // V-Log image converted with a new version of the Gamut BaseLUT that they're calling 'Bold'

05 // Panasonic's LUT and then my LUT 'BONBOA' over it at 100%

06 // Gamut's BaseLUT and 'BONBOA' at 100%

07 // Gamut's BaseLUT (Bold) and 'BONBOA' at 100%

There are 12 LUTs in this BaseLUT pack including conversions for V-Log with DR Boost off/on and conversions for LogC3 to Rec709 as well. There are also 4 Monitor LUTs included which is good to have too.
